There, in that place, is where Sally Face camps. There’s this fascinating place between horror and mystery- one where you’re more intrigued than you are frightened, but the underlying unfairness and anxieties of life are laid bare and ooze like wounds uncared for. Through 5 episodes, you slowly discover the events of Sally Face’s life. There’s alcohol and drug use mentioned and seen in Sally Face, but none of the main characters partake in it. There’s one scene with full-body nudity, but it’s easy to look away and not portrayed in a sexual context. There are unmarried couples with kids as well as a gay couple during the story. ![]() There’s no explicit sexual content in Sally Face, but some references to sexual acts, affairs, etc. ![]() The f-word is used sometimes, as are many other common swear words. There’s some strong language in Sally Face that is definitely present. Not for the faint of heart, but the cartoon-ish art style keeps it from being too traumatic visually. The story of Sally Face is quite dark and features murder, suicide, maiming, death, graphic depictions of dead or disintegrating bodies and entities, and general blood and gore. Additionally, there’s a lot of gameplay that takes place in spiritual realms or with ghosts, spirits, etc. The main characters are not a part of any cult themselves, but one does exist and quite a few dark supernatural events are witnessed throughout the game. If you’re easily offended by ghosts, supernatural events, demonic worshippers, dark spiritual imagery, dark spiritual beings, possession, and rituals, then this is not the game for you. Okay, so Sally Face has a lot of dark spiritual elements for sure. It’s one you won’t forget for a long while.Enter the gritty, intriguing world of Sally Face, starring Sally Face – a boy with a prosthetic face and bright blue pigtails. The homage to the ‘90s in terms of music, visuals, and certain sequences are all nice touches, and my only real criticism is that you may well find yourselves lost at times as the solutions to progress aren’t always as apparent as they should be.īut apart from that, you’ll love your time with Sally Face. It is truly original and takes you on an amazing journey over its five chapters. Sally Face is an excellent piece of creative work, especially in terms of story and visuals. The sound is solid with some good effects too, whilst the music has a metal theme and works brilliantly with the game. I will never forget a sequence in which a ghost appears for the rest of my life – but that’s all you’re getting from me, no spoilers. And it’s not afraid to switch things up too, heading into a nightmare world and the surreal it’s here where it really comes alive. It’s a brilliant piece of work visually, with striking character work and great detail in all its level design. The developer of Sally Face – Steve Gabry (Portable Moose) – has had this idea brewing since 2007 and the animation has been influenced by ’90s cartoons like Ren and Stimpy. It’s like a mixture of a teen drama series with Hellraiser. All the characters encountered are brilliantly rounded, interesting and a pleasure to spend time with. It plays with the supernatural uniquely and fascinatingly, but it also puts you in surreal environments where you might be examining the art of the devil himself, to becoming a doodle on a piece of paper, walking around and talking to other scribbles. Like a strange nightmare, you question what is reality and what is in Sally Face’s imagination. The story – told over the five episodes – is an intriguing and thrilling one throughout. Sally Face explores the apartments and soon finds himself led into a world of darkness and mystery. This apartment is dealing with the murder of one of its tenants from the get-go and the other rooms scattered around hold some very strange and unusual residents. We then zoom back to the ’90s where Sally Face – now as a young boy – is found with a tragic past and a prosthetic face, moving into some apartments with his father. Sally Face is a boy who we first see as a grown man getting interviewed by a psychiatrist at the start of the game. It’s a narrative adventure game, very much like a point and clicker that puts you in the title shoes of Sally Face. ![]() Now though, lucky console owners get to play the whole complete story now, across five episodes. ![]() First released in 2016 on PC, Sally Face was dropped in episodic fashion over the coming years.
